With this motto, the English Department of Government General Degree Collge, Ranibandh, presently under the Bankura university, has been striving and steering the department to its success by embellishing and enriching the students to succeed in their lives. We read literature to satiate our hearts with passion and imagination. Innate human emotions hankering after poetry, beauty, romance, loveare some of theimportant spheres that quench the thirst of the wordsmiths and the connoisseurs of arts. Words and ideas can change the world and the English department has been changing the lives of our students by providing quality education within a student-friendly environment.

The English Department had commenced its voyage from the academic session 2015-2016. Presently, the students of the English department has well been nurtured and guided by the two Assistant Professors- Mr. Subendu Mondal and Mr. Nurul Hasan, who joined this college with all hope and faith, and who have been spreading the lights of literature in English from Ancient classics to modern classics, from British to American and Indian literature, from literary criticism to literary theory, from research methodology to English language among the students. Both honours and generic courses are taught with utmost care.

The department is enriched with the abundance of books in the central library of the college. The department has taken utmost care in encouraging the students to think critically and to inculcate creative impulse. The department has been trying to connect individuals with larger truths and ideas in a society through literature.

Courses: The Department offers undergraduate Honours, program, generic course and compulsory English. Curriculum and syllabus of these courses is under CBCS with the affiliation of Bankura University.
