Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is inspired by the vision of transformational
change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge
institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India. Their
mission is conceptualised as a movement to enable processes that connect
institutes of higher education with local communities to address the
development challenges of rural India through participatory processes
and appropriate technologies for accelerating sustainable growth. The
imperatives of sustainable development which are being felt more and
more acutely all over the world also demand eco-friendly development of
the villages and creation of appropriate employment opportunities
locally. Increasing urbanization is neither sustainable nor desirable.
So far, our professional higher education institutions have largely been
oriented to cater to the mainstream industrial sector and, barring a few
exceptions, have hardly contributed directly to the development of the
rural sector. UnnatBhāratAbhiyān (UBA) is a much needed and highly
challenging initiative in this direction.
VISION
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational
change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge
institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India.
MISSION
The Mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable higher educational
institutions to work with the people of rural India in identifying
development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for
accelerating sustainable growth. It also aims to create a virtuous cycle
between society and an inclusive academic system by providing knowledge
and practices for emerging professions and to upgrade the capabilities
of both the public and the private sectors in responding to the
development needs of rural India.

We
have successfully conducted two awareness campaigns - Plastic Free Zone
and Water Conservation in the five villages that we have adopted for
Unnata Bharat Abhiyan.
For ‘Plastic Free Zone’ campaign we have visited those villages and
instructed the villagers clearly as how to prohibit single use plastic
products like water bottles, coffee cups, plastic bags, polystyrene foam
items, etc. and made them understand the harmful effects of plastic
pollution and its effect on environment and on us. We have also
instructed them on how to avoid plastics and look for alternatives like
using jute, cloth or paper bags, and suggested to at least reuse them as
many times as they can before disposing the plastics off if they had to
use plastics.
For Water Conservation we have come to understand that the villagers
solely depend on tube well and pumping for their daily need of water and
farming due to the lack of both water conservation knowledge and absence
of water reservoir. We have communicated and instructed through
different water programmes as to how reduce the unnecessary wastage of
water and the recycling of water to maintain the underground water level
as per the process of "earth keeping" by conserving rain water by
digging ponds, lakes, canals, etc. we also understand that to conserve
the underground water level, the villagers are in a dire need of water
reservoirs.
